Leave The World Behind was released on Netflix on November 22, 2023 and people immediately started going crazy about this movie. On social media there were rumors that Barack Obama was behind some of the writing in the movie. It has been revealed, that Barack owned a movie studio but had never created or published a movie with that company, so he sent in notes to the director of the movie with new and interesting ideas. Obama claimed that this seems so scary due to the fact that it seems like something that could happen in the future.
There are 4 parts to the movie, Part 1: “The House”, Part 2: “The Curve”, Part 3: “The Flood”, and Part 4: “The Last One”. Each part has a realistic situations that people don’t usually consider happening because we don’t pay much attention to the meaning of everything around us. This movie was based off an apocalyptic situation but not in the traditional zombie type of apocalypse, more like things in our daily life being taken away from us. For example at the beginning of the movie there was a family of 4, the son and daughter, Archie and Rosie, and the parents, Clay and Amanda, were on a road trip to their Airbnb that was placed in a village along Long Island. The actor that plays Amanda was actually feeling more realization of what’s going on in the world and what could possibly come in the future. As they were staying in that Airbnb unusual things kept happening, for example the first situation that showed was that the WIFI or internet was not available anywhere. Coming to the vacation house after a long road trip they settled in their Airbnb and after an hour they all decided they wanted to go to the beach. After sitting at the beach for a little bit Rosie sits up and starts to notice there’s a giant ship in the sea and looks like it coming straight for them. The ship ended up crashing into the sand putting people in harms way so they all went home but later in the night they heard a knock on the front door and unexpectantly it was the Airbnb’s owners William G.H. and his daughter asking for help because of the internet outage, later on in the movie Rosie was swimming outside and she noticed there were 100’s of dear standing and staring at her in the woods behind their Airbnb.
More incidents continued on like loud ringing noises after the internet went out, a plane dropping red gas and red warning papers, 100’s of dead plane passengers scattered around the beach, a long highway of Tesla’s self driving themselves and crashing into other Tesla’s, but towards the end is when it got even more serious.
Archie starts losing his teeth so they went out to find help for their son but got themselves into dangerous situation. They needed a cure so they went to go visit one of Williams neighbors but when they arrived, the neighbor came out with a gun ready to protect his family. Everyone was on lock down and had no clue what was going on. While all of this was going on with Williams neighbor Rosie decided “to wonder off on her own because she was curious and plus there was no Wi-Fi to watch her favorite show “Friends”. While exploring in a neighbors abandoned house and she goes downstairs to find out its a bunker for if something were to happen. She runs down to see if the TV works, she found a “Friends” season on DVD and the movie ended off with the theme song of “Friends”.
This made lots of fans upset that the movie ended with a cliff hanger, but the movie still had a 75% rotten tomato rate. This movie has convinced a lot of fans that they may need to be prepared and to become more aware of what goes on around them.
