The band Her’s consist of two band members: Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading. They were a UK indie-rock band. Stephen was the lead singer and the guitarist and Audun played bass and did the background vocals.
The band was formed in 2015 and released their first single ‘Dorothy’ a year later. In 2017, they put out the album the ‘Songs of Hers’, which one of the songs in that album is there number one song ‘What Once Was’. They also have two other songs from that album as there third and fifth most played. In 2018, they released ‘Invitations to Hers’, which personal is my favorite album. In that album, there are two songs that are in the top five. ‘Harvey’ as the second most played and ‘She Needs Him’ as the fourth.
Even though Her’s had already had a debut album, (Songs of Hers), they said ” With Songs of Her’s, we were just holding onto dear life trying to release music.” With their next album’ Invitation to Her’s, they felt more confident with this album and knew what they were looking for. In an interview they said what influenced the album: “We were watching a lot of Twin Peaks, Twilight Zone, David Lynch stuff, listening to a lot of MGMT and 50s stuff, and we were able to inject all those influences into the album.”
Invitations to Hers is my favorite album from the band. It has eleven tracks, which have there own unique style. The albums name is actually a refence to Twins Peak soap opera, ‘Invitation to Love’. Its not just the album name, but also the cover and some of the songs.
Low beam has very much Twin Peak vibes. The song Harvey was actually based off the movie Harvey, which was an “imaginary” rabbit that a man befriended. Mannie’s smile was based off of Stephen cat. The song is an apology to his cat because he had to give him away when he went to college. The song ‘She Needs Him’ is my favorite song on the album. It was also inspired by Twins Peak, The Beach Boys, and The Smiths. Stephen said the guitar riff had the same kind of harmony like ‘Back To The Old House’ by the Smiths.
Sadly, the band died on March 27th in 2019. They were on there U.S. tour in Arizona, and on there way to California. A pickup truck collided head-on with the band’s passenger van. Both Stephen and Audun died, along with their manager.
The band isn’t unknown, but I rarely hear people talk about them. I think they should have more recognition because their music is just that great. I know not every is going to like their music, but there are people who will. Everyone should check them and give them a try!
