Alexander O’Connor, or better known by his stage name Rex Orange County is an English recording artist and songwriter who grew up in the village of Grayshott near Hasemere Surrey. O’Connor was born on May 4th, 1998, which makes him only 20 years old. The name Rex Orange County is based on a nickname a teacher had given, OC, after O’Connor. At age five, O’Connor was a part of the choir at the school in which his mom worked at. Over the years he grew up listening to artists such as Queen, ABBA, Green Day and Weezer, but classical soulful artists such as Stevie Wonder also inspired him. He is a drummer, self-taught pianist, and picked up the guitar at the age of 16. At this age he started to produce his own music on Logic software.

In 2015, Rex Orange County released “bcos u will never b free” on Soundcloud. Which peaked the interest of Two Inch Punch, who provided him with a management team. They collaborated on a few songs like “UNO”, “Best Friend”, and “Untitled”. This also caught the attention of Tyler the Creator, who sent him an email, appreciating the album, but also wanting him to fly out to L.A. to work on the album “Flower Boy”. Rex Orange County released his song “UNO” online in 2016 when he was 18. Then in 2017 he released his second album “Apricot Princess”. The name was inspired by his nickname for his girlfriend Thea. Three months after the release of his second album, Rex Orange County was featured on Tyler the Creators’s album “Flower Boy”; he contributed vocals and co-wrote songs “Boredom” and “Foreword”. As of May 9th 2018, the most popular track by Rex Orange County on Spotify is “Loving Is Easy” created in collaboration with dutch artist Benny Sings. On April 16, 2018, Rex Orange County preformed the song in his television debut on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. On May 31, 2018, Rex Orange County released a cover of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” with Randy Newman, the creator of the song.
