This year South has welcomed many new faces. Today I am going to be highlighting a new Spanish teacher and our new counselor.

Janit Martinez is a first year Spanish teacher.

Interviewer: What have your first couple of weeks at South been like?

Martinez: They have been busy, fun, interesting, and challenging. I also have been getting to know the students.

Interviewer: What made you want to teach at a high school opposed to a middle school?

Martinez: I wanted to teach at a high school because I enjoy working with youth. I appreciate the age group and I can have more of an impact to help and guide them.

Interviewer: What are you looking forward to this year?

Martinez:  I am looking forward to building good relationships with students. I want to learn their goals and dreams and help guide them.

Next, we have our counselor Tara Tiflati.

Interviewer: What have your first couple of weeks at South been like?

Tiflati: They have been busy. I’ve been doing a lot of schedule changes and senior visits, and I have enjoyed getting to know students.

Interviewer: Why did you choose to be a counselor at a high school rather than a middle school?

Tiflati: I have always wanted to work with high school students to help them plan for their future and recognize their potential.

Ms.Martinez and Mrs.Taflati have both enjoyed their first weeks at South and hope to have a great year here.
