Netflix’s New Ad Tier System
Why it is being added
In the first three months of 2022, Netflix lost 200,000 subscribers, and in an April shareholder letter it predicts that greater losses are yet to come. The prices of Netflix’s stock have dropped by more than 70%. Roughly 70 billion dollars was wiped of its market capitalization causing a lawsuit to get filed by shareholders. Shareholders stated that Netflix misled investors on how subscriber growth was declining.
When it is being added and how it will work
On November 3 of this year Netflix is going to implement its new ad supported tier. Ads are going to range from 15 seconds to 30 seconds, and they will play before and during any program that you watch. People should expect to see around 4 to 5 ads every hour. This is going to be Netflix’s lowest and cheapest tier costing $6.99 a month.
Is it worth it?
If you are looking for a streaming service that has good a catalogue of shows and movies and you don’t mind ads, go for it. $6.99 a month is not a bad deal if you don’t have a lot of money or if you don’t mind ads. It can be a good way to save some money if you are willing to sacrifice having no interruptions while watching your shows or movies
Other tier options
The next level up from the basic with ads tier is the basic tier and it costs $9.99 a month. It comes with no ads but only 1 person is allowed to be on the account. The standard tier costing $15.49 a month allows for there to be 2 people on the account. For $19.99 a month you can get the premium tier that allows 4 people to be on the account.
