The Sallie House sounds innocent right? welp until you realize that it is considered to be the most haunted place in Kansas, which this article will give you the basic and brief rundown of this haunted place. Built between 1867-1871 in the sprouting town of Atchison, Kansas the Sallie House was built for a family, which I will be referring them as the Finney family. After the completion of the house, around 1870 the father of the family mysteriously died, which left the Finney family devastated and ultimately left the house a few years later. Now no weird occurrences happen after the Finney family moved and multiple families would later move in and out of the house, until a newlywed couple with an expecting child moves in. Now it is December 31st, 1992, the couple, Tony and Debra Pickman, which I will refer them as the Pickman’s for short, were both new homeowners and didn’t really know what was natural for a house. The Pickman’s dog, who was usually calm and relaxed, started to bark ferociously at the soon to be nursery of the house.
The Pickman’s would later experience strange occurrences such as lights flickering, dimming, cold spots around the house, and unexplainable dropped calls from their landline, which the Pickman’s would dismiss, due to the house being constructed in 1800’s and its age. Things would later escalate after the Pickman’s baby arrived, such as electronic toys turning on and off and with one incident involving the mother, Debra witnessing the windup musical mobile above the baby’s crib play on its own and Debra would later say her son wakes up almost hourly throughout the night “as if someone was playing with him”. Later after returning from Debra’s in-laws, all of the stuffed animals from the nursery were moved onto the floor, arranged in a circle with their backs to each other and a stuffed bear would later be repeatedly found on the floor. After hearing what happened in the nursery, Tony’s brother would later bring a 35-millimeter camera to take a photo of the nursery and as he was about to take a picture of a stuffed bear he said, “if you’re here, do you want your picture taken?” and as he clicked the shutter, the stuffed bear spun around on its own in front of their eyes, basically confirming they weren’t alone.

After many events, involving strange occurrences, attacks on the husband, and even the witness and encounters with “Sallie”, in October of 1993 the Pickman’s would later move out of the house and the house would later be leased to a new family which the owner, Les Smith after doing a surprise Maintenace visit, would discover a large pentagram on the floor along with other disturbing items, which all of this would later lead into present day. The Sallie House today is now featured on multiple investigation series such as Buzzfeed unsolved, Ghost Adventures, and many others, is now a tourist attraction, which your able to book a tour around the house, learn about its history, and even do an overnight stay at the house, well with a price that is.
