A Mentor for the individual
The coach is, for a lot of students, an important mentor. They teach technique, tactics, also values such as perseverance, discipline and a sense of responsibility. Coaches have a talent for recognizing the individual strengths of their athletes and encouraging them, but also challenging them a little in their weaknesses. They support you not only in sport, but also personally. For example, in difficult phases of the students, in the balance between school and sport, or by setting an example of fairness and team spirit.
Architect of the teamÂ
At team level, the coach is the person who shapes individual talents into a functioning unit. They provide structure, plan training sessions, creates strategies and promote team spirit. A good team is not only based on talented players, but also on trust, communication and common goals – all factors that the coach actively shapes.
Role model and life teacher
The influence of a coach often extends far beyond the playing field. Many students remember the lessons they learned from their coach for the rest of their lives: Perseverance, leadership skills, how to deal with defeat and responsibility. Coaches are role models who show that success lies not only in winning, but also in growing as a person.
Team spirit as a central task of the coachÂ
One of the most important tasks of a coach is to promote team spirit and to convey to the students that success does not depend on individuals, but on working together. A coach often sums this up in clear words: “Stop thinking about yourself and start thinking about the team” (Hauser). This quote reflects what team sport is all about – putting your own ambition at the service of the group. The coach helps the players to understand that individual talents only develop their full potential when they are embedded in a strong team. Through targeted exercises, team meetings and personal discussions, he creates a culture of mutual respect and responsibility. In this way, the students not only learn to become better athletes, but also what it means to be part of something bigger.
