Whether it be Call Of Duty or Fruit Ninja, most people enjoy games. For me, I love pretty much all the games that are online or just a good story mode game. Like Sea of Thieves online and GTA 5, but I’m not ranking online games right now (GTA 5 would be ranked 5 since every time I join I get immediately spawned killed by those things in the sky, and on top of that, I had to endure an extra 5 minute wait to load up on the online version). Anyways, my favorite genre of video game would have to Story Mode. It’s like a playable movie, it’s even better if you can make your own choices that change the outcome.
The Last Of Us
I know I have talked a lot about The Last Of Us already but it is such an amazing game and its special to me as it was one of the first games I ever truly played. I wont go much into detail on this game because I already have in the past, but its about these two people named Joel and Ellie, they are in a post-apocalyptic world and they have to travel across the country so Ellie can help make a vaccine. You get to see their relationship go from hate to love. The story and the characters are really well done; you get to easily connect with the characters. The Last Of Us II is good, but its too depressing to put on this list.
Detroit: Become Human
The idea and story itself is well thought of and a bit uncanny as this truly might become our future, but the best part of the game for me is the fact that you can make your own decisions and they play a major part of the game. I ended up really screwing my game up because I made a wrong decision and one of the characters died. The fact that this takes place in 2038 in Detroit is scary because its only 13 years away, and with how things are going, this might become reality. What will become our reality? Oh, just living robots walking around and causing a revolution. Yet, it wasn’t the robots that were the problem, it was the humans. The humans owned the robots, or they were really called Androids, and once they started to gain feelings they would be sent to be killed, sll because they started to have a mind of their own and wouldn’t do house chores any more. Random humans would attack and verbally assault them. They should not have been owned. As the girl on the main screen says, “Remember this isn’t just a story, this is our future”.
Tomb Raider (The Reboot)
This game is a classic. I have played all the Tomb Raiders Reboot versions, and the first one is my favorite. I have beat this game at least 10 times. Yet, if I’m being honest, I don’t really remember the story a whole lot. It was maybe 7 years ago I played this on my old Xbox 360. I just remember really loving it. In this game, you get to explore various landscapes and try to find what the main characters father couldn’t. Of course, this isn’t all, because Lara Croft has a whole organization after her, trying to kill her and find the same thing before she does. If you like or love Indiana Jones type stuff, you’ll be sure to like this. This game has many puzzles that will require you to really think hard, or you know, you can always look up how to solve the puzzle on YouTube if you don’t feel like struggling for 3 whole hours.
Red Dead Redemption II
Now this could be a crime putting this masterpiece so low, but the ones above have some sentimental value to me. Realistically The Last Of Us and this should be head to head, but it is what it is. Read Dead II story mode is a great game, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did with the online version though. The game tells the story of Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they navigate the decline of the Wild West in 1899. The game follows the gang’s attempts to survive after a failed robbery, facing the rise of modernization, the end of outlaw life, and internal conflicts that threaten to tear them apart.
The Walking Dead
Similar to The Last of Us, it features an older man playing a father figure to a little girl in a zombie apocalypse. This game was really fun to play and I really enjoyed it. You are given many choices throughout the game, stretching from dialogues to actions. Always remember your actions have consequences. I would 100% recommend you to play this game, it’s not very long. There are different parts of the game, when Clem is younger and then when she is older. The first game follows Lee Everett, a convicted criminal who becomes the guardian of a young girl named Clementine amidst the onset of a zombie apocalypse in Georgia. The second game picks up 2 years after the first one. It features 11-year old Clem all alone until she finds a cabin, she meets a group of people whom she will stay with, but they are on the run from a large community. Will everything be alright? Play the game and find out. You don’t really need to play the first one before the second one, I didn’t, but I did watch someone play the first game before I played the second game so I did understand what was going on.
I think my ranking was good depending on the games I’ve played. Summer break is the time I usually play story mode games, so who knows, I might be back next year to give an updated version. I will also finish Read Dead 2!
