Mental health challenges can impact athletic performances greatly. Stress, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and trauma are all examples of things that can affect athletic performance. Often times when people have depression they don’t feel like doing anything but it’s not impossible to play sports while having depression. Walking, jogging, cycling, swimming and hiking are actually recommended to relieve or prevent depression. Athletes are vulnerable to mental health disorders as a result of:

- Overtraining
- Social media
- Ongoing competitive pressure to perform
