Facts about Dinosaurs

Approximately 700 dinosaur species have been identified. However, paleontologist believe that there are many more new and different dinosaurs to be discovered.

Fun facts: some dinosaurs tails were up to 45 feet and long tails could help them with running as well as keep a good balance when wondering about. Megalosaurs was the first dinosaur ever described scientifically and first theropod dinosaur discovered. when this was discovered, the word “dinosaur” wasn’t even invented yet. Dinosaur fossils have been found on all seven continents. In 1842, the English naturalist Sir Richard Owen coined the term Dinosauria, derived from the Greek deinos, meaning “fearfully great,” and sauros, meaning “lizard.”
