Sensory Friendly Stores
Some stores have adapted to have sensory friendly hours in certain stores. This includes dim lighting, no overhead announcements and mitigating cash register noises.
This allows for autistic people to have a better experience while going out in public because having fluorescent lights flickering, the sounds of carts wheeling against the floor can be extremely overwhelming and can cause someone to have a meltdown or completely shut down as a whole.
There are more stores (roughly 450) like this in Canada and other places in the world. It’s important to create safe environments like these so that everyone can be included and not have to worry about what could happen or go wrong when they are just trying to do basic errands.
