How the Pandemic Effected Movie Theater Business
The unexpected shut down shook all of America and had a drastic toll on movie theater business around the world.
“After this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing,” said Jackie Brenneman, Cinema Foundation president. “We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers that made this summer happen, and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.”
This caused movie ticket sales to go down 75% in 2020 making less then 2.45 billion dollars while making 9.91-billion-dollars in the previous year. However, with movies like “Minions: Rise of Gru,” “Top gun: Maverick,” “Spider man: No way home,’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Jurassic World Dominion” Cinemas are back in business making an astonishing 11.4 billion dollars in ticket sales.
During the pandemic, movie release dates kept getting pushed forward. This had studios hoping theaters would open coming back with huge audiences to earn back for the movies budget. The pandemic also made it trickier for studios to make more movies. With people expecting bigger and better movies after the pandemic, the bigger the movie the harder. This resulted even fewer movies now, specifically 30% less.
Nobody knows what the future of movies are but, hopefully this experiment can get people thinking that going to movies can be cool again and making sales go higher then they are now!
Will this deal count for concessions as well?
Concessions make most of their profit off of concessions so with there prices for tickets going down to $3 on September 3rd any lost income will be made up with busier than usual concession stands!
