On January 7, Tyre Nichols was pulled over under suspicion of reckless driving. The footage did come out showing what happened to Nichols after the police got ahold of him. The video revealed that Nichols was beaten very badly and unlawfully by 5 Memphis police officers. Nichols was pulled out of his car and the officers threaten to harm him; after being threatened, Nichols ran away.
The officers caught up to him and started the fatal beating, powerful punches, and kicks were thrown by the officers who claimed Nichols was the one being violent. It was also shown in the video Nichols never fought back. He was later taken to the hospital but sadly passed away only 3 days.
The officers who did the crime
The 5 officers who fatally beat Tyre Nichols are Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Justin Smith, Emmitt Martin, and Desmond Mills Jr. They are all going to be charged with second-degree murder, 2 counts of official misconduct, 2 counts of aggravated kidnapping, 1 count of official oppression and 1 count of aggravated assault.
Tyre Nichol’s funeral
Nichols’s funeral will take place on February 1, at 2 pm EST. Vice president Kamala Harris was invited to attend the funeral by Tyre’s parents; she accepted the invitation. Al Sharpton, a civil rights leader will deliver the eulogy at Nichol’s funeral.
