Major updates for AVID for the 2024/25 school year: Due to budget cuts across Wichita Public Schools, only 5 middle schools will offer AVID as an elective in the 2024-2025 school year. The process for the AVID application has also changed, now needing both a full completion of a magnet application and an AVID application. For Jardine and Coleman Elementary, Pleasant Valley, Truesdell and Robinson Middle School you have to apply for AVID as well as for a transfer to that school, leaving out Mead.
North, East, South, and Heights High School will still continue to have the elective, not disrupting any previous plans. Unfortunately eighth graders attending any of these schools will have to apply to these schools via special transfer request, or have to apply for AVID by January 30th.
All questions involving this issue can be addressed to Mrs. Aberg, Ms. Epley, Mrs. Olson or Ms. Fuentes.
What does this mean for students? If you go to any of the schools above, not much; you can still apply to the Elective, along side added runarounds involving the application progress. The added difficulty may discourage further application rates for future students, effecting interest in WICOR and other forms of advanced classing.
