‘The Florida Project’ Explanation
“The Florida Project” is a well put together movie with a twisted ending. Many people who watched it never really understood the backstory of this film. A gut-wrenching, yet heart-felt, type of movie filled with different emotions, and the experiences of a six-year-old little girl living in deprivation. The movie follows her imaginary escape to Disney World. Her mother was a deadbeat parent, and her father was absent. The little girl known as “Moonee” and her mother “Halley” lived in a motel on the outside of Disney World. Known today as “The Magic Castle Inn & Suites”/ “The Purple Place”. Due to Moonee’s mother not being able to fulfil her parental responsibilities, Moonee wasn’t a very respectful child and went around unattended with her group of friends, Dicky, Scooty, and Jancey, causing trouble.
Although Moonee’s mother lacked taking parental responsibility, she did anything to be able to pay next months rent, and she worked by soliciting herself online. Halley’s friend, Ashley, found Halley’s pictures online and as she threatened to kill Halley if she found out her son Scooty was up there while she was prostituting herself. Halley responded by fighting Ashley in front of Scooty leaving bruises all over Ashley’s face. Which was enough evidence for an investigation to be brought up by the DCF. It is believed by many that Bobby called CPS on Halley.
As CPS was taking Moonee away she was able to escape and run away. Her imagination led her to escape from reality and made her fantasize about going to Disney World, instead of being taken away by CPS.
