The True Amityville Horror

Most of us love scary movies, right? Well let’s talk about the the Amityville House in New York. Not only do people think the house is haunted with evil spirits, but a crime also took place in that very house. In the Long Island town of Amityville, lies the house that is connect to the horror films “The Amityville Horror”. In November 13, 1974 is when a crime of mass murder would take place.

23 year old Ronald J. Defoe Jr. Claimed to be hearing voices in the basement of of the family house telling him to unalive his family for quite sometime. Ronald would be woken up at 3:15 a.m. every night. Ronald lived with his mother and father, with his four other siblings in the “haunted” house. I guess one night the voices became to much for Ronald and they actually took over him. Ronald went to a bar the night the murders took place and told everyone that his family had been shot inside their home, members of the bar would then accompany Defoe junior back to the house at 112 Ocean Avenue, where they had called the Suffolk County Police to report the murders that took place.

Defoe jr. would be taken by the police to get questioning about the murder of his family. He would go on and say he doesn’t know who did it or what happened. A year later Defoe would confess to the killings and would be convicted of six counts of second degree murder. The Lutz family would then but the house thirteen months later after the incident for the price of $80,000. Which was drastically reduced from the original price because of what event took place in that home. 28 days of living in the house. the family quickly left.

After George and Kathy Lutz bought the house the first day they arrived they had a priest, Father Ray Pecoraro come bless the house of any possible evil that was in it. During the blessing of the house Father Ray into each room blessing them but when he got to the sewing room that’s when things started to take a turn. Father Ray started to experience weird activity, he said that he felt and unseen hand touch him and then heard a voice that told him to “Get Out”. After the Pecoraro experienced the activity he then got ill with symptoms like the flu and his hands began to bleed.

Within a couple of days the family started to notice some strange activity. They said there were some unpleasant odors that came and lefty throughout the house, the front door would slam shut throughout the night, they were always hearing strange noises, and parts of the house would get freezing cold. George says that his wife’s face would change to an old women’s face with all the wrinkles and weird colored hair. George Lutz would wake up every night at almost 3:15 a.m. He started to experience that same things Defoe was experiencing. Which is when we believe the murders took place. Mr. Lutz has said he heard his children’s bed slamming in the night and he was almost felt paralyzed like he was getting held down by an unknown force.

28 days later the Lutz’s family fled the home horrified if they didn’t leave that something awful would happen to them. They left all of there belonging including all of there food at the house. Who knows if they ever went back.

In the “Amityville Horror” movie you see the visual of how Defoe committed the murders of his family in the home. In the movie you get to see what the family’s in the house experienced when they lived there and how they ended up dealing with the paranormal activity. The movie is great in showing the horrifying events that took place in Amityville. But what do you think? Is just a clever hoax or did horrific events actually take place in the house?
