Warning: This post contains mild spoilers. Get MouthWashing on Steam! It’s a really good game, and the creators have made other great titles. If you don’t want to buy the game, I highly recommend watching playthroughs from ManlyBadassHero, who provides great commentary on it! Thank you!
If you have a craving for freshness, here is a real existential surprise! Mouthwashing, a game developed by Wrong Organ and published by Critical Reflex, was released earlier this year. It is a first-person horror experience following a space freight crew on the “Tulpar.” After an unexpected crash, the crew finds themselves with a severely injured Captain, a Critical ship, and a quickly declining supply of resources.
Mouthwashing is a great take on the modern horror scope, with titles like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Bioshock, Mouthwashing did show true promise and presentation in the Indie-Horror scape like never before. This game while touching heavy set subjects, executes the themes they set to explore beautifully. One of the major themes is taking responsibility for your actions, with a character actively avoiding it throughout the whole timeline of events and how it affects their relationships with the other crewmembers.
I also think the game is horrifying and existential in the best ways possible, touching on the human experience. It also has great symbolism, For example, the Company the crew works for “Pony Express” has a mascot named Polle who through the runtime of the game has many different forms that have deeper meanings behind them. Along with how easily the creators can distort the form of Polle to be downright terrifying at times. Honestly, the game in my personal opinion is great and gets 15 Mouthwashes out of 5! Stay fresh yall!
