Do you still notice or even see the old Charlie Brown cartoons that come on during the holidays? A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, A Charlie Brown Christmas, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and maybe others? Reruns of the Grinch cartoon made in the late 60s with its Iconic hand-drawn style. Or if you are niche enough, the Little Bill cartoons that ran on certain TV channels. All these old, outdated, and janky cartoons have something in common; nostalgia. We are seeing less of it recently as older media is something people don’t talk about.
Christmas has always been surrounded by a blanket of warmth and fondness that most others regard it with. We have almost all of our senses connected to Christmas; Nutmeg and spices for smell, white crunchy snow for sight, jingle bells for sound, etc. We have connected senses to this holiday obviously, but no one has noticed that TV shows and media have deeply embedded themselves into our holidays.
Nostalgia wasn’t there at the beginning of course, but it worked its way by families just watching it together, maybe in the living room or at the dinner table during the holidays. This comfort worked its way through all of us and found itself embedded into our generations and just maybe the generations to come.
Nostalgia culture has been coming back due to the media loving to reflect on our childhoods. Such as recently with people playing “Piglet Big Game”, due to people loving to reflect on our childhoods. But that game is explored due to people finding it as “Baby’s First Silent Hill” but I digress.
So for this holiday season, check out some of your older media! Watch older movies that you may have not fully understood, don’t remember fully, or just want to rewatch! It’s a really fun time and is a great way to embrace older media and connect and share with others! Go Find some old movies from your childhood and go to town!
