When you think of Thanksgiving, do you think of snowmen and ghosts? NO! You think of a fat turkey. When you prepare for Thanksgiving, you decorate your home and your yard. You have to buy all the yummy Thanksgiving food and get warm sweaters from your great aunt(s). There are also many things to do like: make huge leaf piles, watch football, and bake pies.
When you preparing for Thanksgiving, you always need someone to cook the food. Mostly the moms’ make and bake the day before and the day of Thanksgiving. They make all of the pies at night so that they would be cooked and cooled by morning. Also the turkey takes a lot of time to make. You have to preheat the oven, wash and dry the turkey, stuff it with stuffing, and cook it for about 5 hours.
Baking pies is a fun thing to do with your family. You get to throw flour on your older sister and crack an egg over your younger brothers head. You eat pie after you have stuffed your face with turkey, stuffing, ham, green beans, mash potatoes, and deviled-eggs. There are many different types of pies. Like: Apple Crisp, Cheesecake, Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Sweet Potato Pie, Banana Cream Pie, Cherry Pie, etc.. Everyone usually make pies the night before Thanksgiving so they can save the actual day for the sides and bread rolls.
Around Thanksgiving it gets pretty cold. Not so cold that you have to wear that big snow suit that your mom brought you 2 years ago. But cold enough that you get to wear those ‘cool’ sweaters your grandma and aunt got you. Those sweaters that are really scratchy and colorful. There are many types of sweaters like: hand-knitted or pullover.
Decorations for Thanksgiving have fall colors like: orange, brown and yellow. There are also pilgrims, turkeys and leaves. Your younger siblings are probably in school right now and are making Thanksgiving crafts. Things like turkey food, handprints, and feathery things, fruit basket and colorful corn.
You can always make huge leaf piles and jump in them. Anyone can do this, not just little kids. When you make a leaf pile make sure you have dry, crunchy leaves, not the wet, droopy leaves. If you get wet, droopy leaves no one would want to jump in your leaf pile. It won’t be fun, trust me.
Football is also a common thing to watch during Thanksgiving. You can watch it with your whole family, or go over to your friends house and watch it. Don’t forget all of those tasty snack you have to make and buy at the stores. The snacks vary from salty to sweet, and mild to spicy. Many people like eating hot-wings with chips and dip. Also lil’ smokies, KFC chicken and fries. Don’t forget the party trays filled with: crackers, cheese and meat. And there are party trays of fruit and vegetables.
