On August 23, 2021, board members voted 6-0 to mandate face masks. Board president, Stan Resser made his decision based off of guidance from local hospitals, the CDC, and the local board of health. During the meeting, officials stated there have been 194 students and 51 teachers that have tested positive for COVID-19. South High School staff are currently testing students for 8 days straight if they’ve come into close contact with a COVID-19 positive person and are making teachers and students quarantine for 2 weeks if tested positive. The district has done more than 3,000 tests since school began in August. USD 259 currently has more than 90 buildings where testing can be done.
