The Wichita Police Department confirmed the death of a one-year-old child, who was shot and killed Monday night in an apartment complex in the 2500 block of S. Oliver. There were also two women, both 24 years of age, who also suffered critical, but non-life-threatening injuries, during the shooting according to police.
There were additional people in the apartment during that time. They included a 24-year-old man, a 5-year-old girl, and a 10-month-old girl. Although the suspect fired multiple rounds into the apartment, police said those three were not injured.
Near the scene, a neighbor, across the street from the shooting scene, described hearing 10 to 15 gunshots as she spoke on the phone.
Sullivan said the shooter likely neither knew nor cared who was inside.
Police were calling for the “coward” to turn themselves in.
The night of February 26th, two men were found guilty; K’Veion Richard and Jonathan Tillery-Matthias have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of one-year-old Taidyn Anderson; both are also charged with criminal discharge of a firearm.
Richard and Tillery-Matthias are being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on a $1.5 million bond. Both are set to appear back in court on March 6 at 9:30 a.m.
We will soon see what happens.
As this family is going through a tough time, keep them in your thoughts and prayers. No one should have to experience such a tragedy.
