Copycat is a game made by Spoonful of Wonder. The game is on Computer, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. It’s a hard, sad game, that by the end leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, which is what also makes the game so good.
In Copycat, you play as a cat named Dawn who you can choose through multiple different coat colors for, which gets adopted by a woman named Olive. She takes good care of you, getting you to slowly open up. One day, disaster strikes.
Olive has a really bad medical emergency, where she gets sent to the hospital. Almost a week of running rampant and ruining the home, Olive finally comes back! And with her daughter, Mae.
Dawn is kicked out, replaced with a cat who looked identical to her, and was actually the original Dawn. You try to get back inside, yet Olive eventually drives you out into a vacant park from the fighting.
She abandons you there, leaving you to fend for yourself and try to find your way home. The ending of the game will not be spoiled, yet it is a game that has made people cry in the ending.
Overall, Copycat is a game about animal neglect, abandonment, and mistreatment. While with Olive, Dawn was happy and loved. While when she was outside, people treated her like some mangy stray that could be kicked without consequence.
The game also shows for you to never get a cat as a replacement for another, especially if you cannot care for two. In the end, the two Dawn’s to become friends though, giving each other companionship while watching over Olive.
