Have you noticed your having to bend your chargers a certain way to get it to work? Your phone battery draining a bit faster than usual? Headphones breaking after a couple of weeks? Trust me, its not your fault. Its called Planned Obsolescence, where companies purposefully make crappy products to keep you and your money coming back.
As the future and profitability of tech advances, something the public glances over, is the corners tech company’s cut to increase profit margins and boost their numbers. All coming at the expense, literally to the general public! Ill speak on my experiences as a person who has owned a variety of tablets, phones, accessories, laptops, and cords over their lifetime. Going into depth of what I know is best, and how you can stay clear of these glorified scams.
First off, I say begrudgingly that gaming products like consoles and gaming systems themselves are usually one type of product that doesn’t have a lot of major issues. While things like the ‘Ring of Death’ from Xbox360’s, or how the Nintendo 3Ds was known for having screen hinge issues with the screen falling off or breaking easily. Typically consoles are the beefiest overall, so no worries or complaints from me here, But their cords… Cords are the worst offender for this issue, only really popping up in the last 10 years. The Xbox 360, manufactured by Microsoft in 2005, their cords work perfectly with little to no fault even today while its still in use in my home. But on the other hand with something like say, an iPhone chargers seemingly break like glass! But at least you have to throw glass hard enough, These cords have such a high break rate that even iPhone users finally complain about it, with million of reviews complaining over and over again. Its not just with them either, Androids and more brands like Huawei have the same issues with cords seemingly breaking out of the box. This is because of how manufacturing with cords and many other devices changing from over the past 10-20 years, being made with cheap materials, worse construction, bad wiring and more. Leaving you with a broken charger, a dead device, and another chunk of money missing from your pocket.
“But what to do?”, I hear you thinking. Well, I have a few solutions for you to make sure you keep your money for longer, have better device help, and get better from your home devices. Spend more money. Yes, I’m joking, but not really. Id recommend buying from reputable and reliable sources for devices, no, I’m not talking the major ones, Nope! I’m talking… small businesses and shops. I notice the small places with cords that can cost anywhere from 10-20 bucks, are stringer, longer lasting and lest prone to breaking. I myself have a cord from a couple of small businesses before and all of them have outlived cords coming from official companies, I still have one today that hasn’t even showed signs of fraying, power delay, or even slow charging. I highly recommend your Small IT shops, online shops and more, especially if your an iPhone user.
It all comes down to who you trust more with your resources and time, ensuring you put your money where your mouth is is the best way to teach these companies that we wont take the abuse for our wallets any longer! Don’t take the bull from all these big companies, they just want ridiculous amounts of money just for cheap garbage. Keep your eyes open South High!
