Our South High School Choir performed an amazing performance on the 5th of April, 2024. The two groups of South High Choir, Bel Canto and Madrigals performed to make it to the state choir. One of the soloists Mariah Barkus performed two songs and Received a 1 rating for the amazing performance. Two students from the Choir performance told us about their favorite experience during the concert and some of their favorite songs they sang. One of South High’s Madrigal performers, Oscar Rodriguez told us about his favorite song that they performed:
“My favorite song was called Lamentations of Jeremiah, it was a very sad song about a book in the Bible. It was full of emotions and long-lasting memories. Not only that song but many other ones truly I loved”.
Javon Freeman, another one of the Madrigal singers in the Choir explained his experience: “I am Javon and I am in the Madrigal Singers and Concert Choir”. “My favorite part about performing with Mads [Madrigals] and Concert Choir is just being able to make beautiful music as an ensemble together we have a little family and I think it’s something very special at South High that people don’t really get to see. My favorite song we sang is A Piece Called Laminations of Jeremiah by Randal Stroop. It’s a very cinematic song and very dramatic song and it’s a very loud song. it took all the ensemble to make it work”.
Behind the scenes, it takes them hours of practice as a team to come together as one voice. Doing this, they work together to accomplish goals like their performances. Thank you to our Choir students and Choir instructor for putting in the time and work to make our program better.
