The Academy Awards have released their 2023 nominations for outstanding films of the previous year. Since May 16th, 1929 the Academy Awards have been an annual awards show first debuting in Los Angeles and not being broadcast to radio or television. The categories for awards have updated and changed throughout the years and the current slate of categories include the following; best picture, best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best director, best original screenplay, best adapted screenplay, best international film, best original song, best animated film, best documentary, best live action short film, best animated short film, best makeup and hairstyling, best visual effects, best short subject documentary, best original score, best cinematography, best film editing, best costume design, best production design, and best sound.
Some big standout names include titles like Top Gun: Maverick, The Banshees of Inisherin, All Quiet on the Western Front, Elvis, Avatar: The Way of Water, and so many more but the biggest nominee by far is Everything Everywhere All at Once with 11 nominations.
Along with best picture going to Everything Everywhere All at Once I am hoping Michelle Yeoh wins Best Actress, Ke Huy Quan wins Best Supporting Actor, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish for Best Animated feature, The Batman for Best Visual Effects, The Daniels (Everything Everywhere All at Once) for Best Director(s), and Best Original Screenplay.
