YouTube, a place many unique and/or unsavory individuals have used to climb the way to stardom. Some of the internet’s most loved creators have come from the platform, for example, Markiplier or CoryxKenshin, but also some of the worst creators have come from it too. YouTube is a place that has been around for a long time on the internet and throughout its time a lot of bad things have happened, but that is why we need creators who care about the community, creators who take time into their content, creators who give more than they can take, creators like M&Jmetal.
Who is M&Jmetal? :
M&Jmetal is a YouTube channel with 567k followers and was created by Martyn, who started YouTube four years ago and throughout his career he’s filmed a mixture of different content. Marty is a joyful man who lives in Canada and often vlogs the surrounding areas of his home. Marty is also accompanied by someone named Jamie and while it is unknown who this person is, they are a very important part of the channel. Jamie is often a cameraman for Marty during his outdoor vlogs but is never seen or heard on camera, along with many others behind the scenes. Marty while being on the platform for a few years now only really gained popularity in the past two years due to his “Pickled Pepsi” video, which was a detailed tutorial about how to make a new Popeyes drink coming to Canada that Marty deemed overpriced, sharing a cheaper and more creative option, a trend he would continue for other fast food items. Marty and Jamie or M&Jmetal are the kind of people places on the internet like YouTube need, especially in this generation, but why?
What kind of content do they make? :
Marty films a wide range of content, like short form videos about metal art and gaming on his Instagram, along with longer form gaming videos and vlogs on his YouTube channel. Marty, in the beginning of his YouTube days, filmed outdoor vlogs, with the help of Jamie, at local parks or around the outside of his home. In these vlogs Marty points out the beauty of nature and shows off the importance of visiting places like Penny Park. Marty also on both Instagram and YouTube films gaming videos and short tutorials to help fellow players in these games. Marty has a series called “trash and treasure” where he finds things, usually on the ground, and shows them off to the camera while explaining how these items can be reused, these kind of videos show the importance of recycling and help the reader understand that everything can be used at least a second time and that there really is no need to overconsume. Accompanying his “trash and treasure” videos he also filmed videos showing off his finds at local garage sales and thrift stores, adding to his collection of unique items and showing affordable and consumer friendly ways to shop.
Why are channels like M&Jmetal important? :
M&Jmetal might not be the most popular or most followed content creator, but he is a creator with big heart and in times like these where the internet is at its lowest, we need people like that. Many creators now days chase the fame and think the numbers make them better than the people who support them, but Marty is different, Marty lives in a humble home and despite having a large number of views and loyal fans he has never let that get to his head and who he is as a person. Channels like Marty and Jamies show us the beauty of the internet and how good it can be to connect with others in the world around you and let us take a break from the toxicity that is around this platform. M&Jmetal isn’t the only creator like this, with millions of people online there is no way they have all succumbed to the evils of the internet, but he is one who will be remembered and loved by his community.
