Are you constantly breaking out your flat iron to avoid frizz? What about using 20 different products to contain your hair? Have you given up on trying to make it look nice on a regular basis? If you answered yes, you probably have curly hair, and you probably do everything you can to hide it.
Curly hair is a blessing, but if you don’t know how to take care of it, it’s a curse. I’m sure you think you’ve tried everything, and that you’re done listening to people who don’t understand your hair. I know what that’s like, I’ve been there. But really, only a few little things will make a huge difference. Things like how you handle the care of it and how you style your hair.
Hair Care
1.) Learn to love your hair: Once you begin to like your hair, you’ll understand it better. After you understand it, you’ll be more confident with it and what you can do with it. I used to hate my hair, i’d throw it up in a ponytail and fill it with bobby-pins everyday. But a few months ago, i realized that a lot of people would give anything to have hair like mine, including about $50 every time they go to the salon.
2.) Shampoo: Don’t wash your hair everyday, in fact, only use shampoo once or twice a week. Wash it with conditioner. Also buy shampoo that is sulfate free. Sulfate is that stuff that makes the shampoo lather up. These shampoos strip your hair, and with curly hair, contribute to the frizz.
3.) Condition: Like i said, wash with conditioner. Put it in your hair at the beginning of the shower, and leave it in until you’re almost done. Comb your hair while you’e rinsing it, then don’t brush it again after you get out.
4.) Brush your hair before bed: For all of this to work, it’s probably best to shower in the morning. This way, you can brush it before bed after it’s dry. By doing this, you’re working your hair’s natural oils through it, oils that your hair needs to be healthy.
5.) Special Cases: If you’re in a sport, some of these things may seem impossible, some sports more than others. I’m a swimmer, and i usually prefer to shower afterwards, but i got a few tips that really helped me.
- This one only works for swimmers, but it’s worth saying. Rinse your hair out before you get in the pool, this way you’re hair is already wet and won’t absorb as much of the chlorinated water. After you do this, put conditioner in it to protect it a little more.
- After you finish practicing, rinse off, but don’t do much with your hair. Rinse it out, but on’t put anything in it.
Styles
- Ponytails are the simplest style you could do. All you gotta do is brush it back and pull it up.
- You could also braid your hair. Try to do this when your hair is wet so it’s easier.
- Leave it down. I prefer to braid it after i shower so that it can dry that way and be less frizzy, but you cold also just put product in it and leave it alone till it dries.
- Flat Iron it. Only do this if you have heat protection products. when you do this, if you do it right, you should have pretty straight hair until you wash it. After you Flat Iron it, you could also curl it with a curling iron or wand to get controlled curls
There’s so much more you can do with your hair, things that i don’t even know how to do. But if you do try these things, you may love your hair a lot more.
