The walking dead is a popular AMC horror-drama series that follow a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies whom they call walkers. The show focuses on their struggles to stay alive and obstacles they face. Over the 11 seasons many characters come in and out of the series so here is the best top 8 characters.
 1. Rick Grimes
Rick Grimes is the main character of the series as the show starts off with him waking up in the hospital due to being in a coma after being shot on duty, he wakes up to finding out the outbreak has begun. He is in search for his family and once they reunite it shares one of the most heartwarming and emotional scenes in the series, throughout the show he has huge character development and good leadership towards his group. He has many iconic scenes throughout the show like his iconic head tilt, his way of saying his sons name ” Carl”, and all his fight scenes.
2. Daryl Dixon
Daryl Dixon was in all 11 seasons of the show, he was set to be killed off early in the seasons, but he later became loved by many fans. Daryl had huge character development as in the first few seasons he was really closed off from the group and liked to be alone alongside his brother Merle. Later on in the seasons he grew closer to the group, Daryl is a very skilled fighter, tracker, hunter and he never fails to make the right decisions for himself and the group.
3. Glenn Rhee
Glenn is seen as a hero since the very first season as he was the one who saved Rick from his near-death experience. Glenn is a very smart thinker and the group often relied on him for supply runs, he is a very quick thinker. Many fans grew to love him throughout the seasons as many were devastated after his death in season 7.
4. Michonne
Michonne was introduced into the series in season 2 but doesn’t meet the group till later on in season 3. Many love her as she has very good skills with her infamous katana, she is a very sharp survivor and has a lot of strength. She evolves from a lone survivor into one of the most trusted leaders and protectors of the group, lastly when she began her romance with Rick Grimes.
5.  Maggie Rhee
Maggie was brought into the series in season 2, she lived on a farm with her family and soon later became a big role in the group. She went from an isolated farm girl into one of the most fierce and strategic leaders of the group, Maggie faces many losses throughout the show which leads her to becoming stronger. Many gained love for her when her a Glenns romance started, their relationship is a fan favorite.
6. Carol Peletier
Carol is one of the originals from the group, she starts off as a lonely individual and is isolated due to her abusive husband. She also faces many challenges throughout the show like the loss of her daughter early on, she became one of the strongest survivors. Carol carries lots of trauma, fear, and guilt but she never lets that get in the way of protecting the people she loves.
7. Carl Grimes
Carl is the son of Rick Grimes, he goes from a scared little kid to a strong fighter, he gained many peoples love throughout the seasons as he is faced with many obstacles no child should ever have to face but he always overcame them. He steps up to protect the people he loves and even strangers, helping a stranger cost him his life. His heroic act to save a stranger left impact on the fans as many were devastated by his death in season 8
8.  Negan Smith
Although Negan is probably one of the most hated villains of the show with his iconic baseball bat Lucille, his whole story line of him and the groups conflict are some of the best seasons. Negan is funny and a good fighter, although he is seen as a villain Negan is just broken as he faces the death of his wife Lucille. Through later seasons Negan has his redemption arc as he becomes someone the group can somewhat rely on.
