Monkey D. Luffy has 9 Straw Hat members, not including him. His pirate crew consists of: Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook, and Jinbei. Which one is the best?

Well “best” is very broad, it could mean which is the best fighter, best character, etc. At the bottom of the page there lies a survey that you can fill out your own favorites, if enough people do it then I will make a follow up post.

My favorite straw hats:

Luffy- Luffy is my favorite for multiple reasons. He is the main character which main characters tend to always be my favorite. In this case, I think that’s more of a coincidence. His character brings light to the viewers with his silly behavior, yet is serious when his friends, or a random stranger he just met, or a town is in danger. Luffy never lets go of is dream and can match energy with anyone. In my best opinion, he is the best fighter in the one piece world and I will stand on that forever.

Role: Captain

Nami- There is not much that needs to be said, I think as I am a girl I tend to like other girl characters. Nami always has an opinion/idea and when she wants to do something the crew will usually do it. She is not the captain but everyone definitely listens to her or she will get violent. Nami keeps the money under control, or at least she tries. Also, she is very smart and can manipulate a few people (Sanji)  into getting what she wants.

Role: Navigator

Zoro- Zoro, good thing he is not a Navigator because he would have found the One Piece already and the anime would be over! He is funny and serious at the same time, which makes a good character. I would say he is the most loyal straw hat to Luffy, amongst the crew. When he fights it’s really enjoyable.

Role: Swordsman + Vice Captain

Sanji- Sanji’s overall character and style is cool. He is a good fighter but he would never fight a female which is sweet but also absolutely sucks while watching him go up against a female enemy, like in Enie’s lobby. He is smart, but when it comes to a woman he can get easily trapped, for example Wano. He is pretty weird around females which I know some people think ruins his character, which they aren’t wrong but also all the characters have their own special quirks. To me Sanji in Fishman Island was funny, but everyone has their own opinion on that.

Role: Chef

Chopper- Chopper brings a fun and cute presence in the crew, but he is more than that. His background had a lot of potential, yet that’s pretty much under looked now. His monster point is strong along side his other techniques. In my opinion Chopper is not just some small cute little reindeer, plus he is 17 so that’s just weird. I hope for later arcs his character grows to get the bounty he deserves. That said he is a small cute little reindeer that brings joy and laughter, yet you would not want to underestimate him.

Role: Doctor

Robin- Starting with her and below are the mid characters, Chopper is a little bit mid but look at him, how could I put him lower? Anyways, there is nothing bad about Robin, she is a cool character with a cool background, or maybe I should not say that, but still. Her devil fruit is interesting and knows how to use it. I’m just confused on how she spent 2 years with the revolutionary army and never learned armament Haki, big waste of time there. I like her better now that she trust her crew. Other than that, I’m not sure about her character, there isn’t anything bad about her.

Role: Archeologist

Brook- Brook is the definition of mid. Just kidding, yohohoho. Anyways, his character is very interesting and I love Binks sake. His style fits his character. I sometimes feel like the crew doesn’t appreciate him that much, but then again I feel like he doesn’t do a lot of fighting, he just cracks the same jokes over and over again. Or says the same question, which true One Piece fans should know. I hope I see him fight more later on because he definitely has potential there, and he evolves from the goofy character.

Role: Musician

Usopp- Let me just say 99% of the time I cannot stand Usopp. He lies, he lies, he lies, he is dumb, and he lies. His whole character is based on the fact that he is a dumb liar that always wants attention for being brave and strong. I do think this does have something with his dad leaving and his mom dying. One of my favorite One Piece moments was him becoming God Usopp which is the only reason why he is at this spot. Not a big fan of when he was trying to fight Luffy, that made the anime a little depressing and showed more of the reality of them being pirates and not just being on a ship in the ocean. Elbaf is coming up which is his arc so my expectations are going to be high for him. I would like to see him move above brook.

Role: Sniper

Franky- Although I don’t like Usopp, a part of me will never forgive Franky for what he did to him. Franky is cool and funny, that’s pretty much his whole character and nothing else. Pretty mid and pretty much don’t care about him.

Role: Shipwright

Jinbei- Not much to say if I am being honest. He is that last member to join the crew. However, he played a vital part of saving Luffy from a terrible time. If he was not there then Luffy might have never recovered. I do like how Jinbei always keeps Luffy in check.

Role: Helmsman
