Starting off the new year 2026, Wichita South Highschool started their new tardy policy. Every time a student is tardy they must go to one of the tardy carts in either KMS intersection, in front of C hall, or if you are barely just getting to school then you go into the B1 office or Infront of the entrance, wherever they tell you to go to. Starting this policy the goal is to limit the number of tardies around the building, high tardies have been a huge problem, yet they have tried many different other solutions. Last semester the amount of tardies school wide was around 30,600! Another catch to try and limit students from being tardy if you have over 20 tardies for the semester then you have to take all of your finals, rather than if you have less than 20 tardies and meet other requirements you won’t have to take your semester finals. Also, if you have over 25 tardies for the semester you will not be able to attend prom.
Other solutions they have tried included the holding rooms which if you were late to any class you were sent to the cafeteria to spend the rest of the class period. Other solutions include lunch detention. Hopefully this new solution to limiting tardies for students works and at the end of the school year the numbers have decreased a lot.
