The lights, the songs, the decorations, the food… it truly is the most wonderful time of the year, however, one question still lingers, when is it right to start celebrating Christmas? November 1st? November 25th? Are you celebrating to early? There are a variety of answers to these questions and is has caused quite the controversy. Christmas music usually doesn’t begin to play on the radio until December 1st, while Hallmark’s “Countdown to Christmas” begins on Oct. 20. Some believe Thanksgiving deserves some recognition while others believe Christmas cannot wait. Is 32 days really enough time to enjoy the Christmas spirit that surrounds around us? Christmas time is overflowing with to-do’s so why not give it some more time? Personally, I don’t want celebrate dry turkey for a whole month when I can celebrate the joys of Christmas for two! It is a common miscomputation that people who celebrate Christmas early is disregarding Thanksgiving In no way am I over shadowing Thanksgiving, but Christmas needs time and space to breathe and with some putting there tree up to take it down the next week and quite frankly is disappointing to see all the Christmas spirit go straight down the drain. Hearing the remarks “Ugh, it’s way to early to put up the Christmas lights?” Where is the question when it is too late to celebrate Christmas? Sure Thanksgiving is for giving thanks, but for one day? Christmas gives people time to gather together to spend time with your family and friends to truly appreciate the people around us for a month. What is there to do leading up to Thanksgiving anyways, you make the food a day prior and eat it in the morning, that seems about it. Why make turkey hats and play turkey bingo for a month. Honestly, I believe Christmas time is filled with much more festivities for everyone in the family to enjoy. It’s the time to sing Christmas carols, eat sweet treats, watch Christmas movies, and spend time with friends and family. It is also important to note that people who put up their Christmas decorations early tend to be happier and more friendly, listed in the Journal of Environmental Physiology. Personally, I put up my Christmas decorations out November 1st, and that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a nice thanksgiving dinner. It also happens to be my 3rd favorite holidays following Christmas and the fourth of July. As someone who loves Christmas music, you will usually catch me listening to it multiple times scattered throughout the years. Christmas is a very memorable time of the year when families come together and remind each other how thankful we should be. So why celebrate the turkey for a whole month when we can celebrate the birth of our lord and savior Jesus Christ!
