There is nothing like waking up on Christmas Day and opening presents, laughing, and spending time with your family. Every, or mostly, every kids favorite holiday was/is Christmas. All those Christmas movies and activities we did in school were always the best times. If your class had a elf on the shelf, it was more fun because you got to name it and see it in a different spot each day. Christmas is a time of joy and spending time with family, yet, when we were kids all we wanted was presents.
Now that we are older, we still get presents but it will never be like when we were kids. We won’t have an elf on the shelf anymore, we won’t watch Christmas movies during school, because teachers would rather give us WORK, I guess they didn’t watch Christmas movies like they should’ve back than. No more fun Christmas activities either.
Every year the holidays get less and less fun like they used to be. All the holidays now are rushed and there isn’t any fun countdowns or excitements. The only Christmas countdown I saw this year was 67 Fridays away. Will Christmas even be fun in a few years? We will be older, will our parents still give us Christmas gifts?
In our kid eyes, Christmas was always about gifts, movies, playing in the snow, decorating, the Christmas tree, when it should have been about the family. Now all we look forward to is winter break, gifts, and, to me at least spending time with my family. It should have always been about the family. When we are even older and have our own kids, we will be the ones that have to go out and buy Christmas presents, will that even be fun? Probably not if we have to wrap all the gifts.
There is not doubt that Christmas was more fun when we were little, but why? Has Christmas fallen off, or are we just growing up? We can never go back in time to when we were little and had nothing to worry about, not feeling obligated to get your family and friends gifts. At this age most of us should have jobs, so on Christmas Day, we can look forward to a confirmed day off, unless you have to work, then that sucks.
I still enjoy Christmas but ever since elementary school ended it has not been like it used to. I don’t want to bring Easter into this, but we don’t even celebrate that, and by the time we graduate it won’t be normal for us to go trick or treating. So really, what is waiting for us when we are older? All the holidays that give us a day off?
